Wakeboarding Selection

If you have ever wondered about all the different wakeboard DVD options out there then please read this article. Not only is there a large wakeboard DVD pool to choose from, there are also many different kinds. Most of these usually fit into one of 3 categories.

The first is the instructional wakeboard DVD. These are the ones where video footage of all kinds of wakeboard tricks are filmed by professionals where they break down a trick in order to explain how best to learn it. These can be very beneficial when it comes to progressing in wakeboarding. The pros have gone through all the hard work of figuring the tricks out on their own and then pass along the wakeboarding advice to you, so that hopefully you will not have to go through as much trial and error. An instructional wakeboard DVD will usually have a number of wakeboarders, all giving different tips and advice about what helped them to master the tricks. These wakeboard DVDs usually cover everything from beginner tricks all the way up through the advanced level wakeboard tricks.

Another popular wakeboard DVD category would be the ones centered around the lifestyle of a wakeboarder. These DVDs usually have some solid riding in there as well as a good bit of footage of what a pro wakeboarder's life is like in the time when they aren't being pulled behind a boat. Exotic trips, behind-the-scenes footage, and clips where you get to know them more personally are all found in this type of wakeboard DVD. These are really popular as they focus more on wakeboarding as an art, rather than just the tricks and technical aspect involved in riding a wakeboard.

The third wakeboard DVD type are the ones that are almost exclusively riding footage behind the boat. Some of these can be the most exciting and can really do a good job of getting someone excited and motivated to go out and learn some new wakeboard tricks. These wakeboard DVDs also usually do a good job representing some of the newest tricks and variations of tricks that are currently popular with the pro wakeboarders. If you want to see some of the most technical wakeboarding to date, usually these wakeboard DVDs do a good job showcasing it.

There are many options out there when it comes to choosing a wakeboard DVD. I would suggest looking at all kinds, as even some of the older ones can give you a good idea of how far wakeboarding has come and how much the sport has evolved. Some of my favorite wakeboard DVDs were made over a decade ago, and still have some great wakeboarding in them even by today's standards.

For more information on all the wakeboard dvd types and other wakeboarding information, check out my wakeboard website.

The Game of Golf

For some people, golf is nothing more than taking some golf balls and whacking them aimlessly toward the hole with whatever club they can grab the quickest. To them, golf is the mindless bit of exercise they have to endure before they get to the drinking and fibbing portion of the afternoon. However, for others, golf is more than just a game; for them golf is a means of not only relaxation, but an opportunity for fitness as well.

These golfers are constantly learning and improving in hopes of having a consistent golf swing. That's what we teach at WeFixGolfers.com.

Golf can be all of these things as well as a chance for social and business networking, and for those people who view it that way, they would like to have some semblance of skill out there. These people will want to live and breathe golf, but first, they will have to learn the very basics of the golf swing.

The first step to approaching the game, after gathering all of the gear, of course, is to learn the fine art of patience. If you have ever watched golf on television, you know that there is a stillness about the game found in no other sport- a quiet grace that takes just as much hard work and dedication as the wrist shot in hockey, the leaping slam-dunk in basketball or the dramatic Hail Mary play in football.

The golfer, especially the beginning golfer, must learn to be patient, to take their time, execute a proper golf grip, and know how to line up properly for the golf shot; and to always be looking ahead to the next hole- what will you do when you get there? Will you know which club is the best bet?

Next, you should learn the general rules of the game itself, as well as the basic terminology. You do not want to get invited out to a round of golf with your boss and then look lost and over your head for the rest of the day. Take some time and learn these things, but do not feel that you have to go overboard and talk like a parody of "golfers". Sprinkle in a term or two, but do not overdo.

The golf swing is not a natural action and you should realize that you will not grab a club and know exactly how to hold it, let alone to use it well. Consider how serious you are about golf and then decide if that warrants reading a good golf swing book, watching a video or taking some lessons. If you are only going to go once or twice a year with friends with drinking the main goal, then flip through a book or two and be done with it.

If you are more serious about golf however, you should at the very least rent a video to study a swing, but lessons are better for a number of reasons. For one, there is no way that a video can assess your own swing and help you to correct and adjust any problems that you might have with it. Lessons with a live instructor will give you the hands on, honest appraisal that may help you build a good, solid golf swing.

New and Used Sporting Equipment

If you intend to make an online purchase, it is important that you research the product as well as the seller before you go ahead and handover any money. For any equipment such as bicycles, camping or sport and fitness equipment you need to be more careful. This is because these items are generally more expensive.

If the product you are purchasing is brand new, then check with the seller if any warranties or guarantees are provided with the product. Also what comeback do you have if the item is damaged or broken.

Ideally, it's better if you're buying a brand new sporting item. This is because it is likely that the item has been used by someone else and may be unclean.

Many of the free classifieds you will see for sporting goods; both in newspapers, magazines and online, are for second hand products. It is important to remember that these items will very rarely come with a return policy attached to them. Therefore you need to look carefully at the product and do as much research before purchasing in case it is not ideal for what you want.

If you are in contact with the seller by email then arrange with them to send extra images and information relating to the product. If it's a tent or a bicycle, ask them to provide you with photographs taking from various angles. This way you will be able to see just what sort of condition the item is in.

Before you make any purchase, it is advisable to speak directly with the seller by email or on the phone. This way you will be able to ask them more pertinent questions with regards to the condition of the item you are thinking of purchasing. It is at this stage that you can find out the reasons why they are selling the item. Sometimes you may well find that the item you are interested in is not a personal item but a job lot that the seller is trying to get rid of quickly.

Be wary of sellers who use standard advertisement photographs from other websites or from sales brochures to advertise their products. It's these people you should once again be asking to provide further photographs so you can really see what condition the equipment is in. If they are unwilling to supply further photographs of the item for sale or provide you with answers to your questions then walk away immediately and look elsewhere for the same item.

Make sure you take the time to learn about the product and the seller before making a more informed decision about your purchase. So never rush into making the first purchase, but spend time looking closely at all the other adverts that have similar products for sale.

Why Does a Boomerang Return?

Have you every asked the question, "Why Does a Boomerang return"? After all it is only a light weight piece of timber and yet when thrown correctly, this seemingly simple object returns to its point of launch. The simple reason for this "magic" rests upon 2 factors; the shape of the boomerang and the law of physics.

The boomerang wing (arm) is shaped similar to that of the aeroplane wing. Just as the "lift-to-drag" ratio of an aeroplane wing works, so does the boomerang wing. The surface distance of the top of the wing is substantially longer than the underneath surface length. Since the air takes longer to travel over the top surface of the wing than the bottom, it creates a "low pressure" area on top as opposed to the underneath which has a "high pressure" area. The difference in pressure causes "lift", pulling the wing upwards.

Applying that concept to a boomerang, as it flies through the air, the "wing" of the boomerang pulls one side up higher than the other. This causes the boomerang to bank around at an angle. As the boomerang continues on its flight path, just as if you were in a car and had the wheel slightly pulled to left or right, the constant lift on one corner causes the boomerang to eventually turn around and head back to its point of origin.

Of course there is an art to throwing the boomerang and a few different factors which help the Boomerang return, but with enough flight distance, a boomerang will generally return. One of the factors which greatly aids to the successful flight is how it is thrown. The greater the spin on the boomerang, the better the boomerang will bank around. The best way to achieve this is to have the boomerang pull itself free from your hand, almost tearing itself away from your pistol finger. The faster the spin the better.

Another way to successfully get your boomerang to return, is to throw it into the oncoming breeze. This helps create greater lift, helping the boomerang bank around and come back. This should always be done with caution as high winds will carry your boomerang away and can even speed up its flight, transforming a safe and gentle toy into a dangerous highspeed weapon.

With this in mind, continue to practice throwing your boomerangs. Understanding the simple concepts of flight, combined with the correct throwing technique and the right weather will ensure the your boomerang will return to you. So now when you get asked, "Why does a Boomerang return", you can answer correctly.

The Thrills Of Parasailing

Parasailing is designed to be towed by either a 4-wheel drive vehicle or a boat. The parasailor has a parachute attached or harnessed behind his back. He then snaps the harnesses of the parasail, after signaling to the driver of the vehicle or the boat. By lunging a couple of steps forward, he soars up, up and away.

Imagine feeling the wind across your face. You'll not only get the thrill of flying, you'll also see the beautiful scenery high up in the sky. By soaring thousands of feet up bodies of water such as rivers, lakes and oceans, the parasailor takes in the beauty of nature firsthand.

Landing isn't as daunting as it seems. The whole process is that the boat or the 4-wheel vehicle slows down until the parasailor lowers himself down to the ground.

Parasailing started in the 1960s. Pierre Lamoigne attached a couple of parachutes to his car. It was a less expensive way for him to teach on how to parachute. By lifting the parachuters up to a required height, Lamoigne and his crew set them free up in the sky. This procedure was referred to as parascending.

By 1961, a parachute company began franchising parachutes - making them under a protected brand which is a parasail.

In the turn of the 1970s, Mark McCullough set the standards when it came to parasailing. He was the first ever to use parachutes while at sea. Before, lifting parasails was practiced from the base line. It was McCullough who encouraged other parasailing practitioners to try out a different approach - which is launching the parasailor from a specially-designed platform.

It was also McCullough who invented the winch boat. This is a ship that assists the parachute by pulling it back to the boat. This invention changed how parasailors landed after their flight.

Parasailing is enjoyable and simply breathtaking. If you're worried that it might not be safe, rest assured it is stable. The ground crew and driver are all experienced. Besides, this is one of the few rides a parasailor can enjoy and there's no need for him to steer.

If you want to try this out for yourself, you can ask your local municipality where and who you can approach about this. Chances are there are dare devils in your community.

You can also try searching online. There are official parasailing sites that offer a complete list of where interested parasailors or parasailor newbies can gain the information they need about this past time.

Best Shoes For Different Sports

Many people, who have an active lifestyle, engage in a wide variety of sports. The ideal situation is that you should have a specific pair of shoes for a specific sport. That is because when you engage in an activity, you are actually moving in a very specific manner. Because all such specific movements, you need to have the right shoes to cushion the impact. Having the right shoes will help you enjoy the sport even more. Here are some quick examples.

Indoor sports.

Many sports are played indoors. For example, you can play badminton, basketball, volleyball, and even soccer. The court surface is very different from that of the outdoors. Usually, the surface is much more slippery. You are going to need a pair of shoes with very good grip. Without a good grip, you may slip and fall. Also, such sports may require you to move sideways or backwards. Your shoes must provide you with ample protection, especially around the ankle area. Therefore, you often see basketball shoes that semi high cut.

Long-distance running.

Running is another activity that causes a lot of impact on your feet. If you wear the wrong type of shoes for running, your muscles will start to ache. The next time you visit a shoe shop, take a closer look at a pair of running shoes. Observe that the soles of the shoes are thicker at the heel, and thinner near the toes. Clearly, this is to facilitate the running movement. When you run, your heel strikes the floor first. You then push off with your toes. This is a continuous movement. With a good pair of running shoes, you will find yourself being able to run longer distances without tiring easily. This is because your shoes are able to absorb most of the stress that is caused by the running motion.

Sprinting.

When you want someone sprint, it appears that their feet are not touching the ground. Why is that so? When an athlete sprints, they are actually landing on the toes with every stride. They are specific shoes for sprinting. They are known as spike shoes, or track shoes. For sprinting events, they usually take place on the track. The track is made up of special materials. Sprinting shoes are spiked in front so that the ball of the foot can grip the track while running. Since the heels are not used, there is no cushioning in the back of the shoes.

Outdoor activities.

Many activities occur in the outdoors. For instance, someone may like mountain climbing or hiking. Usually, a pair of high-quality cross trainers will do fine. Cross trainers allow for a wide range of movements. You can run, jump, or move sideways or backwards in them. For this reason, it is always wise to order a pair of cross trainers.

Be sure to choose the right type of shoes for your sport though. If you are playing basketball, you may wish to pick up a pair of Nike Air Jordan or Nike Dunks. If you are into running, a pair of Nike athletics shoes may be just what you are looking for. Having the right pair of shoes is important because as mentioned earlier, different sports involve different movements. The shoes are specially built to cater to these movements. You don't want to be wearing a pair of indoor court shoes to run a marathon. That will do more harm than good.

Badminton Culture in Indonesia

The paper says, "Indonesia team leaves Birmingham empty-handed following their total failure to reach of finals at the 2009 concluded All England Super Series." I get used to read such news. I notice some changes have been occurring.

Indonesian badminton athletes today are more often likely to shout for celebrating any point gained, as the coaches told them to relieve the emotion, and "terrorize" their opponents. Finally, this manner only makes them no different with Chinese, South Korean, and European athletes.

I am not saying yell on the court is bad. I am just losing the low profiles athletes like Hendrawan (be coach now), Taufik Hidayat, or Maria Kristin. I miss the "shout as loud as you can while I just try to stay calm and play better than you" attitude. This used to be our cultural characteristic as the East people.

I also miss the respect toward opponent. An Indonesian legendary, Rudi Hartono, would pick the shuttlecock up and passed it above the net to be caught by his opponent. He has never passed it below the net. When a shuttlecock fell right in Rudi's play field, he saw it as his fault. So he was in charge for it by serve his opponent proper shuttlecock. By this philosophy, Rudi Hartono is the only one on earth who won All England eight times. The highest achieve is never to beat the opponents, but instead to respect them. Even martial art's masters will nod about this.

What I miss for more is the achievement of Indonesia. It has been declining, particularly when we look on the statistic of Olympics. Indonesia has:

Five medals from Barcelona 1992. Two golds (Susi Susanti/female single and Alan Budikusuma/male single), 2 silvers (Ardy Bernardus Wiranata/male single and Eddy Hartono-Rudy Gunawan/male double), and 1 bronze (Hermawan Susanto/male single).

Four medals from Atlanta 1996. One gold (Ricky Subagja-Rexy Mainaky/male double), 1 silver (Mia Audina/female single), and 2 bronzes (Susi Susanti/female single and Denny Kantono-Antonius Iriantho/male double).

Three medals from Sydney 2000. One gold (Tony Gunawan-Candra Wijaya/male double) and 2 silvers (Hendrawan/male single and Tri Kusharyanto-Minarti Timur/mix double).

Three medals from Athena 2004. One gold (Taufik Hidayat/male single) and 2 bronzes (Sony Dwi Kuncoro/male single and Eng Hian-Flandy Limpele/male double).

Three medals from Beijing 2008. One gold (Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan/male double), 1 silver (Nova Widianto-Lilyana Natsir/mix double), and 1 bronze (Maria Kristin/female single).

This brings me to another missing, link to spectatorship. I mean, declining achievement, declining spectator enthusiasm.

Once upon a time, the togetherness and militancy of Indonesian supporter was so tough. No matter the supporter of other team were greater number, we were always be the most sensational one in stadium. Singing in ensemble, screaming when thrilling, cheering even in the middle of the play. Something you can hardly find in spectacle of tennis, table tennis, beach volley game, or even badminton when it does not involve Indonesia team.

First thing to do for the Indonesian after entering the stadium was listening from where the shout that's typically Indonesia. Then they would sit there. You know, the supporters never yell sporadically.

And what if they did not know each other? No problem. They would.

It seems like Indonesian supporter were the only mob who systematically plan everything to support their badminton players. Few men would offer themselves to direct and teach the mob the songs. Suddenly everybody was ready to light up the stadium.

My French friend was electrified by experiencing the atmosphere of such stadium himself. I actually had not known he likes badminton until he caught up by camera sitting on tribune in one of Jakarta's badminton stadium. I was watching the match live on TV, so I recognized him.

Few days after, we met. "It was crazy!" he said in French, "Every move of Taufik Hidayat invited the cheers. Like Zinedine Zidane when showing up his skill on the field in past days. They sang, screamed. For a moment, I thought I was in soccer stadium. So uproar. Your folks ... were totally insane! But I've been thrilled for being there."

Yeah, me too, François.

So have the other badminton's giants. Ask China's coach, which team he wants to meet in final when Indonesia becomes host. You will get the obvious answer: Indonesia! The uproarious of spectators is always a challenge for strong teams. Moreover, I think this hullabaloo things makes badminton game more interesting, more selling.

What can I say. I just hope Indonesian militancy and "heroism" badminton culture won't lessen. For the popularity of this sport too. *

Brahmanto Anindito is a copywriter, also fiction researcher in Warung Fiksi. He speaks and writes in Indonesian, English and French. Brahm is badminton lover too, witch means play (just for fun) and watch

Table Tennis Can Strengthen Your Family

I used to cringe whenever the radio announcer said, "Do you know where your children are?" Sometimes I did, but not always. My husband and I have four children, and they were usually scattered in four directions. Well, that was a long time ago. They are now married, with children of their own.

But things have changed. In today's world it seems like every child has his own cell phone. They can call or text their family and friends at will--even when their attention should be elsewhere. For example, I have observed teens texting each other during church services while they're sitting right next to each other! Isn't there something wrong with this picture? Many children have their own computers too, with Internet access. They can "chat" online with anyone. To me this is scary. Children are developing all kinds of relationships electronically, without having to leave their homes. In their minds they have lots of "friends," but these relationships aren't real. And to make the situation worse, the kids don't know how to talk to anyone "in the flesh" when they have the opportunity to actually look someone in the eyes. How sad!

But it doesn't have to be this way. Our family has found a way to beat this problem. Our grandchildren are enjoying life with their friends, and their parents know where they are, what they're doing and with whom. You see, they are at home playing all sorts of table games. Their friends like to come to their house for some ping pong, Foosball, air hockey, or even darts. They often bring their own snacks to share. The younger ones enjoy board games suitable for their age.

Once in a while they will have a neighborhood potluck, or barbecue. Every family contributes. Conversations actually take place, and relationships are formed with "real" people, and the kids begin to realize they are having fun and eating great food. Most cell phones are turned off because you obviously can't talk on the phone and play ping pong simultaneously!

There are some side benefits to this. Gas mileage is down because you do not have to chauffeur the kids all over town...and you are staying home too! Cell phone bills are down because the kids are at home and talking in person with their friends. Energy levels increase, and everyone is getting some much needed exercise while having fun! This leads to a general feeling of well-being, sound sleep at night, and an overall healthier lifestyle.

The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers, more commonly referred to as the Cavs is a professional basketball team that is located in Cleveland. It is one of the eight teams that are members of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They started their career as an expansion team in NBA in 1970 but it was not until 2007 when they bagged a title.

The play their matches in Cleveland wearing blue, orange and white colored uniforms. They played their first match ever in 1970 with the status of an expansion team. The franchise Cleveland Cavaliers have managed to reach the Conference finals only twice and have managed only one Division Championship. In fact to date it is the most long standing team that has never made it to the NBA Finals.

During the mid seventies season the team successfully acquired the veteran center Nate Thurmond who successfully led the team to a winning season which was its first. Further they had a record of 49-33 win loss which resulted in its qualification for the playoffs. The victory owed to the solid defense of the team that featured Thurmond. But eventually the team was heavily defeated by the Boston Celtics in the final of the 1976 conference.

Through the late 80's to the early 90's, the team posted 57 winning records in two individual seasons and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1992. Some of their star players included Brad Daugherty, Mark Price and Larry Nance. Nate Thurmond, Smith, John Johnson and Austin Carr are amongst the other historic players that are worth a mention. Their series of frustrating seasons continued even in 2002-2003 season.

They luckily acquired the number one draft pick in the NBA Lottery which they utilized to acquire a high school player LeBron James. Things were looking hopeful with his inclusion in the team and he managed win the NBA Rookie of the Year title. Season 2004-05 saw LeBron James flourishing into a superstar. His averages increased drastically. He together with Drew Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas formed the effective centre of the team. In fact he is being compared by many to the all-time greatest player Michael Jordan.

Later the year 2005 brought many changes for the team. Mike Brown was employed as the coach and Danny Ferry who was a former player was hired as the general manager. Several multi year contracts were made with some players namely Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones who were all free agents.

Cleveland Clinic Courts, a practice facility was inaugurated in 2007 in Ohio and quickly became known as the best facility around. 2 courts, a conference room, front offices and a kitchen are featured by it. The local TV commentary is handled by Fred McLeod and Austin Carr whereas it is hosted by Jeff Phelps and Campy Russell.

Legendary Home Of The Red Sox

One of the most fascinating aspects about the Great American Pastime is the history associated with some of baseball's most famous parks. When one visits then, it is as if the spirits of the legendary players of the past still speak to us from the infield dust. The oldest ballpark still in operation today is Fenway: home of the Boston Red Sox. Here's a little history about this amazing venue.

Fenway Park opened in Boston on April 20, 1912. It has the distinction of being the oldest of all the stadiums, but Wrigley Field in Chicago runs a close second: it was built in 1914. Fenway was not the original home of its team however. In 1901, the team was called the Boston Americans and it was one of the charter members of the American League. This team underwent a variety of name changes: Puritans, Pilgrims, and even Plymouth Rocks! They played on a field located on the campus of what is now Northeastern University.

In 1907, they finally became the Red Sox and in 1910 owner John I. Taylor began construction on a park that was to be named Fenway, in honor of the Boston neighborhood in which it was located. Today, Fenway Park has remained relatively unchanged in its appearance from its introduction nearly 100 years ago! However, it has had to undergo extensive renovations over the years due to periodic fires and normal wear and tear.

In 1934, a major fire raged for 5 hours; this event prompted the installation of concrete instead of wooden bleachers. It was also at this time that the wooden left field wall was replaced with an inordinately high sheet metal structure with an attached screen designed to protect nearby building windows. In 1947, the advertisements which had adorned the structure for a decade were covered in green paint, and Fenway's famous "Green Monster" feature officially came into being.

Some of the greatest players of all time have called Fenway home at one time or another: Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Carlton Fisk, Jim Rice, Carl Yastrzemski, and a host of others too numerous to mention. Fenway has also seen some of the most memorable games in baseball history and has witnessed six World Series wins: from the first one in 1912 during the Park's inaugural year to the "curse breaking" wins in 2004 and 2007.

Fenway Park will always be the Granddaddy of all major league parks, as long as Bostonians want to keep its long tradition alive.

As more and more people begin to become worried about the economy and finding jobs, having a job in the sporting world is great safety job. When I say a great safety job, I mean this is a job where companies are going to be hiring in some way, even though the economy is in a strenuous times. People being affected by the economy will need some type of entertainment to get away from all the financial hardships and that is when you and the sporting industry comes in. The first quality that will help you is having some type of degree preferably a college or masters degree. Suggested degrees would be a Sport Management, Marketing, or Management.

Surfing to Exercise to Catch More Waves

It's simply a fact that our level of physical fitness affects our wave count as surfers. A surfer who has gotten out of shape is a surfer who catches fewer waves than he or she used to. Exercise is important for all surfers but especially as we age. Remember that it's important to assess your level of fitness before starting a new exercise routine and start out slowly.

A surfers fitness routine should be tailored to promote surfing. In other words, you shouldn't be bodybuilding if your focus is to stay in shape to catch more waves. The heavy lifting required for such an endeavor does not exactly dovetail with the ideal surfing exercise routines. You will end up being too stiff. Surfers should strive for a mix of strength training, cardio, plyometrics, and stretching.

A good way to strength train for surfing is doing 6 exercises of 2 sets of 15 repetitions with light weights. Cable trainers are excellent because you can do so many different exercises on one machine. This is especially true of crucial shoulder exercises. Cable trainers can work the shoulders from many angles through a wide range of motion. Other great exercises include standard dumbbell squats, lunges, chest flies, bicep curls, and tricep extensions. follow those with some back extensions and situps for core strength. It's good do these with little rest in between so that it becomes a form of cycle training.

Plyometrics are great for creating explosive bursts of power that surfing needs. Leapfrogging across the floor, jumping squats, and mountain climbers are all good examples of plyometrics. You can also just practice surfing pop-ups over and over.

Cardio is necessary to develop the stamina needed for those days when long stretches of paddling are necessary. Running outside is fine or use a treadmill when your at the gym or at home. It's a good idea to set a slight incline on the treadmill to more closely simulate "street conditions". A minimum of 1.5 miles is sufficient for most of us, and that can also be mixed with the arm-bike machine for an upper body cardio workout.

Stretching afterwards is very important. Stretching in general becomes even more important as we age in order to avoid injuries while surfing. It's good to develop a stretching routine that goes on for a minimum of 15 minutes following your workout to maintain flexiblity.

Of course we would all rather be surfing than working out at the gym so exercise really depends on our surfing schedules. When the surf is good you want to be catching waves, not sweating on a treadmill. The bottom line is to strive for a minimum of 3x/week of exercise and surfing, better yet 4x/week.

Monitor your body and your routine. You should notice improvement in your surfing almost immediately. If something is hurting maybe you need to change your routine. If you feel out of shape maybe you need more exercise. Everybody is a little different so you need to come up with something that works best for you. Personal trainers can help motivate you and help you develop something that fits your lifestyle and schedule. Given enough time you should notice a dramatic improvement in your surfing.

Ultimate Frisbee Terminology

Players of Ultimate Frisbee should not play without adequate knowledge about the game. There are lots of informational resources online about this popular Frisbee game. There are different kinds of Frisbee games aside from Ultimate Frisbee like Dodge Frisbee, Friskee, Flutterguts, Guts Frisbee and many others. Each of the games have their own terminologies and it's quite easy to mix them up. You have to familiarize yourself with the different terminologies to avoid any confusion.

Eight of the most-used terms in Ultimate Frisbee are the following:

1. Backhand - this will depend if the player is right handed or left handed; right handed players display backhand by throwing the flying disc from the body's left side while the left handed individuals throw from the body's right side.

2. Cut - this is done by making a quick attempt to change direction of movement to keep away from the defender

3. Flow - this refers to a series of well-timed passes made through cuts

4. Dump - this is done when a player is under pressure and he or she makes a quick short pass.

5. Forehand - right handed players execute forehand by throwing the disc from the body's right side; left handed players throw the disc from the body's left side.

6. Hammer - this refers to the overhead throw that is executed quite high

7. Pull - this refers to the throw made once the game begins; this throw initiates play

8. Swing - this refers to the lateral pass made across the playing field

There are still other terms used in Ultimate Frisbee and you have to learn them all. If you try to compare this Frisbee game with other sports games, ultimate Frisbee is different because there are no referees or arbitrators. Players settle their own disputes and they make the call for foul and other violations. Because of this, players should know about the game's rules or regulations, violations, and of course, the terminology. That way, you can easily make a call or you can identify the moves of the other players without much problem.

Sometimes disputes arise because players can't understand each others. If they know the terminologies and language used in Ultimate Frisbee, the players can avoid misunderstandings. It's really important to speak the same language in order for players to understand one another. Ultimate Frisbee is not new and it has been around for many years now.

However, its popularity increased in the past couple of years. More and more individuals are already into Frisbee games and since Frisbee has different types of games, it is vital for every game to have its own identity, separate from the other Frisbee games. One way to do that is to have certain terminologies that are used specifically for that kind of game.

Play Ultimate Frisbee games and make sure you know the terminologies used, as well as the rules of the game. You will need those things if you want to be an effective player.

The History of Falconry

Falconry is training birds of prey to hunt game. Falconry is also known as hawking, despite the fact that in falconry today buzzards are usually used.

It is thought that falconry was established in the Middle East by 2000 BC although the earliest evidence of falconry has only been found from about 700 BC.

There are references to Caesar using falcons to kill pigeons so we know that the Romans practiced falconry and it was most likely introduced to Europe in about 400 AD.

Falconry is known as the sport of kings and many Kings of England have proclaimed it their favourite sport including Alfred the Great and George III.

Much has been written about King John and crane hawking. He used to bring hunting parties to fly falcons at herons which were ringed prior to being released back into the wild. Information about these herons can be found in the Domesday Book.

During the Middle Ages labourers would also participate in falconry, usually illegally and King John banned people from taking game from the Royal Forests in order to improve the game caught by his own hunting parties.

He made a law that a hundred peasants should be fed with the catch from every Royal hunt but the law would still have caused much suffering.

A custom in the Middle Ages known as the Laws of Ownership meant that birds of prey were all assigned a rank and nobody could hunt with a bird that had a higher rank than him. The original Laws of Ownership was written in the Book Of St Albans in the 15th century.

Nowadays anyone can practice falconry in the UK and no license is required although only captive-bred birds can be used. Despite pressure to have falconry banned it has been allowed to carry on albeit with a number of conditions attached to it. Birds must be ringed and government registered and DNA tested to certify their origins and wild birds may not be used for falconry

If you would like to learn more about falconry then you may be interested in a birds of prey day where you can try out the sport.

What is Chess ELO?

What is Chess ELO?

Chess Elo is a way of giving players a rating that is universally used in the chess world. It is not however exclusively for chess and can be used in a number of 2 and over player games such as computer games and football.

The Elo chess system was named after an Hungarian born American physics professor Arpad Elo. Previous rating systems proved inaccurate and therefore it was inevitable that someone would come up with a new and improved rating scale with which we could compare chess players. Elo's system was based for the most part on on statistics. Elo's main hypothesis was that the individuals performance in each match is a normally distributed random variable. The assumption was that players might have good games and bad games however, their overall "true skill" will not change a great deal and therefore can be used in the calculation.

That said, there is another problem. How do you measure a chess player's performance apart from saying he won and therefore performed better than his opponent. Or she drew therefore performed the same as her opponent. Or he lost and therefore performed worse than his opponent.

Elo's idea therefore, was to make it simpler to estimate the "true Skill" of a player by calculating the amount of games a player is expected to win comparing the ratings of the player to that of the opponent. This gets quite complicated but put as simply as possible a player is given a projection of how may games he or she would be expected to win. This is generated from the player and his opponents rating. In essence, if a player won more matches than what his or her projected winning rate was calculated at, their rating would increase and vice versa.

One benefit of Chess Elo system is it helps to eliminate uneven matches between players. Rather like a golfers handicap, similar rated players can be matched against each other.

To initiate your own personal Elo rating you will have to play against middle ranked players with a score say around about 1150 to 1300. Once you have a rating try to play, and of course beat players with a slightly higher ranking as this will increase your score. Once you start to beat this group you can take on the next higher ranking players and so on. Don't bite of more than you can chew. pace yourself, or you may find yourself losing game after game and your score will drop.

If you want to see how they work out the chess Elo ratings click on the link below in the authors bio box.

The History of Skateboarding

Have you ever known how skateboarding came to be a sport? The history of it is quite interesting. It started out in the 1950's and many believed it would just be one more passing fad that people took part in. While it has had peaks and valleys since its introduction, skateboarding has proven it is much more than just a passing fad.

The first skateboard was quite different from today's skateboard. They offered a handle bar on them, just like many types of scooters that we see on the market today. This handle bar is what allowed these early skateboards to be maneuvered and controlled. However, it didn't take long for the idea to remove the handle bar to come along. Many believe this early idea was the result of the popularity of surf boarding at the time.

By the 1960's, the most popular one was the Roller Derby Skateboard. It was actually introduced in 1959 just ahead of the competitors. However, it took many of these companies to keep up with the demand for them. It is estimated that between 1960 and 1963 more than 50 million skateboards were sold. Keep in mind that we didn't have the technology that we have today in order to mass produce such items in large buildings.

When the skateboarding official contests were started by manufacturers in 1963 it only further fueled the frenzy to have one. So what happened that slowed down the craze for skateboards? There are two main reasons that cause the sales down. First, the economic status of the United States began to slow down so people weren't able to buy as many extras as before. Second, many so called experts out there were talking about how unsafe skateboards were.

However, there were plenty of people that were taking a new interest in skateboards by the early 1970's. This was due to the introduction of a variety of great moves and tricks. This added a new dimension to skateboarding that hadn't been there in the past. Now there was much more involved with it all than just simply riding a skateboard. Many of the top competitors out there took things to the extremes and continued to push the limits.

In 1974 a huge change too place regarding the size of the skateboards. Up to this point the standard was either 6 or 7 inches in width. It now became 9 inches which consumers were very pleased with. These additional few inches offered riders more stability and that meant it was easier for them to control regardless of what they liked to do on their skateboard.

The availability of ramps and other materials that skaters could use at home in the 1980's kept the trend of skateboarding going strong. Now people didn't have to rely upon just skate parks for them to enjoy. However, you also had an abundance of city ordinances around this same time. Many of them prohibited the use of skateboards on public sidewalks and streets.

As a result, the sales did dip into the 1990's. Yet once again the idea of skateboarding was thriving. Many believe it had to do with the availability of the internet. People could view plenty of skateboarding action online. At the same time the sporting channel ESPN took on this sport as well.

One thing is for sure, skateboarding has enough of a following that it is here to stay. It is fun to look back at where it has been though over the years. What is also exciting is to speculate about what the future holds for the sport of skateboarding. With the worldwide presence it has, there is always plenty going on concerning it.

About the Author

Although visiting a skateboards retail store, you can choose your favourite boards and try it. But the price may not as good as you expect. If you are looking for a quality skateboard with a good price, buy it online is a very good choice. There are many brands of skateboard for sale on Skateboardspro.com

Practice Positively On The Range

Try to get to the local driving range once or twice a week between lessons and test out your swing by hitting some balls. DON'T just smash them off the tee. Think about the tempo of your swing and aim your shots at a target.

Use different clubs - from the driver through to the sand or pitching wedge. On the golf course you are going to be playing more iron shots than drives.

Think about it. Practicing on the range

On an 18 hole golf course you will probably have at least three par 3 holes. You will probably have another three to five holes where a 3 wood/metal would be a better option than a driver - so you might only play 10-12 shots with a driver.

Think about how many iron shots you are likely to play. Depending on the quality of your driving and your putting you will play many more iron shots than drives.

You are going to play an iron on each of the par 3 holes; at least one, probably two on each of the par 4 holes and probably 2-3 on each par 5 hole.

Let's say there are three par 3s; three par 5s leaving twelve par 4s. The chances are that you will be playing somewhere around thirty-nine irons shots plus some chip shots and pitches - say 50 iron shots as against 10-12 drives.

You can see what I'm getting at here. Your driving range practice should be based on hitting about 20-25 drives including about 8 with a 3 wood/metal; 75-80 iron shots of different lengths (and irons) per 100 balls.

Mix things up a bit

I had some excellent advice from a low handicap golfer recently. He suggested 'imaging' a hole on the golf course - either one you have played (if you have got that far yet), or creating one in your imagination.

Let's say it is a straight 400 yard par 4 hole. Get out your driver or 3 wood/metal and drive the ball at the furtherest flag on the range - probably about 250-300 yards.

Estimate how far you have hit the drive - maybe it is around 170-200 yards. You have 200-230 yards left to the imaginary 'green'. What club would you use next? Possibly a 3 or 5 wood?

Use that club to play your next shot. How far has it gone - maybe about the same distance again - 170 yards, say? So you're left with 30-60 yards onto the 'green'.

You might use a pitching wedge to cover that distance. Aim at a flag or distance marker of that length. Play the shot. How far did you get?

Say you're 10 yards short or long. You'd probably play a pitch shot with the pitching wedge. Aim at a flag of about that distance and play your shot, and if you are still short - or long - play another shot, probably with the pitching wedge again (assuming you're not on the green) and depending on the distance you are short or long.

By using this method you are replicating use of the clubs as you would play them on the course - a driver or 3 wood, followed by (possibly) another 3 or 5 wood, a 7 iron, pitching wedge and so on. The only thing you won't be able to do is putt out!

This is an excellent variation on simply hitting several shots with the driver, followed by several shots with the woods and irons etc. and it'll give you the feel of using - and interchanging - different clubs to play the hole.

Hold back 20 of your 100 balls to play a couple of 'holes' like this. To make it even more authentic, if you stray off course - you slice or hook for example - aim your shot left or right to compensate for your 'error' rather than hitting the ball straight, to get you back to reaching the green.

You'll find this exercise fun and challenging and you'll be THINKING about what you need to do rather than simply hammering balls down the range.

Exercise your brain when you practice on the range.

Legacy of College Football

Every fan has their own reason for rooting for a particular team. Although geographic location tends to breed fans for the local cities it's not always the case in pro sports. Often a person has outside reasons for donning the colors of a team other then the one they grew up watching on television. It could be a fondness in youth for a mascot or team colors. It could be the star football player that was drafted to a team outside of your local market. Whatever the reasoning behind which professional sports franchise you root for it's obvious that people have a million different reasons to explain why their fan-hood is better than the next persons.

However, college football is a much different animal and fans of college football are ravenous fans that don their college football jerseys with a fervor that is unmatched in any other sport. They will paint themselves and wear nothing to a game other than a small thong. They will root in the face of all adversity with the same passion as they would if they were up by fifty points in the third quarter. Tailgating parties have been known to start days before the big game and end days after. It's tradition and it's a true battlefield of warriors that spans generations of athletes and scholars alike.

Families go to college, not individuals. To clarify; generations tend to go to the same school so it's easy to see how college sports can become part of a family's DNA. They spend generations upon generations learning in the same hallowed halls and cheering on the same battered fields of glory. It's no wonder that you see so many families passing down their college football jerseys to younger generations. You'll see more authentic vintage jerseys are college football than you'll see at any other level of sport. With this type of generational heritage it's easy to see why college football has a die-hard loyal following that any other sports promoter would kill to have.

When you wake up on that season kick-off Saturday you'll surely feel a sense of ability. It's an ability to cheer your team to the national championships. The ability to become part of a snapshot of history that will live on for all of history, as you become the elder sportsman and you indoctrinate your younger generation into the family fold. You'll pass down your college football jerseys with pride and you'll regale stories of when you were in those stands, cheering your team to a national championship.

No matter which professional team you root for it will not compare to the passion that you'll feel for the team that took you to new places as a younger college student. Those were the times of your life and the memories that will mean more to you than any professional ballgame could ever mean.

Sports in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of the largest cities in the United States with no team-owned major league professional sports such as NFL (American football), MLB (baseball), NBA (basketball) and NHL (ice hockey). This may be explained by the fact that the leaders of the major leagues have some reluctance to do work in a city full of bookmakers and gamblers.

The city hosts a free professional indoor football team, the Las Vegas Gladiators which play in the Arena Football League. They share the Orleans Arena with the Las Vegas Wranglers, a ice hockey team in the East Coast Hockey League.

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) is a classic circuit located north of the city, which hosts NASCAR racing. The circuit is a "D-oval", its length is 2414 km and has a capacity of 156 000 spectators. It belongs to Speedway Motorsports, Inc. which is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. The main event the venue hosts are the NASCAR UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 (Nextel Cup), the Sam's Town 300 (Busch Series) and the Las Vegas 350 (Craftsman Truck Series).

It has always been known as the home of great pay per view events such as boxing. In recent years, with the growth of MMA fighting, it is now known as the center for great MMA, mainly UFC events which are held regularly in the city.

So although the city does not have a major league team to call its own, it can lay claim to being the home of many other great events and definitely does not come up short in terms of that aspect.

Advance Of Surf Wetsuits

The types and rang of these specific wetsuits have progressed significantly since the beginning times of the wetsuit, with the changes in technology and the addition of various methods of manufacture of the wetsuit. As mentioned the wetsuits were manufactured in black and there was really no other choice, only later after research and development did the range of colors become available, thanks to the development of technology and the addition of various materials to the neoprene to allow for the color change and additions.

Additional aspects that were employed in the manufacture of wetsuits included the seam gluing and the blind stitching. This contributed to the quality and the function of the surf wetsuits, whilst the flexibility issues were added with the addition of the other types of material, backing the neoprene. This in turn allows for the surfer to be flexible out in the surf so that he or she may maneuver as much as they want without damaging the material of the wetsuit, as well as not being exposed to the rigidity of the olden day wetsuit.

Many advances have been made in the technology on the development and manufacture of these items, and one of the latest developments is that of the heating possibility of the surf wetsuits. Several manufacturers have launched their own version of a heated wetsuit and these surf wetsuits are designed help the surfer stay warmer, than they would with a normal wetsuit. This would be specific for colder water regions, enabling the surfer to stay in the water for longer to enjoy the waves.

There are currently three different mechanisms that have been designed in the heated surf wetsuits, these include a chemically activated gel panel type, a battery heated panel type and a solar powered panel type. Therefore we are presented with the opportunity of heated surf wetsuits from three different perspectives. The gel panel type works on a basis where a metal panel when flexed reacts with a chemical gel, which in turn heats the wearer of the wetsuit. The battery type, has panels strategically placed, that are heated via the use of rechargeable batteries, similar to that of a cell phone battery. And the solar panel type harnesses the energy from built in mini solar panels to provide heating spots located in the suit to warm up the wearer.

So although the heated surf wetsuits offer the same results, they do it in different ways, so as to provide this extra warmth in the surf wetsuits, enabling the surfer to enjoy the perfect conditions, even in very cold water conditions. The technology continues to progress with surf wetsuits so as to create a long lasting and more functional product for those seeking such functionality in practically any weather condition.

How to Play Petanque

Petanque or Boule as it is often known is a game played by people of all ages. It is seen in almost every town square in France being played by people having fun, chewing on cigarettes and enjoying a glass of wine. However behind that scene there is a thriving competitive community. Petanque is played in many countries and by a variety of players of all ages and abilities. In China for example it is estimated there are over 1,000,000 registered players.

The game is simple to play but difficult to become good at. Anyone can pick up a boule and throw it to get near the cochonet or jack, however consistency of play is what marks out the good players.

The game is played in singles (3 boule each), doubles (3 boule per player) or triples (2 boule per player). The team that reaches 13 points first is the winner. The game is played in what are termed "ends". This is where each team will throw their boule until all have been thrown and then the points will be counted. You score points for each boule you have closer to the jack. If for example you have the first 3 boule closer than your opponents nearest boule then you score 3 points for that end. Getting close to the wooden or plastic small ball (called the cochonnet or jack) is called pointing or placing. Knocking a boule out of play or out of contention is called "shooting or tiring".

The order of play is first determined by tossing a coin to see who gets to throw the jack. A circle is drawn in the ground (terrain) which must be 30-50 cm in diameter. The feet must remain in contact with the ground throughout the throw of the jack and all boule being thrown, Petanque is translated as "feet tied together". Lifting of the leg is frowned upon and is against rules in competition. However in friendly games it is often overlooked.

The winner then procedes to throw the jack the required distance. This must be between 6-10 meters. They must then point their first boule. The aim being to get as close to the jack as possible. The opposing team will then try to either get closer to the jack by pointing or if they decide that may be too difficult they may opt to "shoot" the boule out of the way to allow them to get closer with the next boule or for their shot to be left in the near vicinity of the jack.

If that team does not get closer with their point or they miss their shot they must continue to throw their boule until they have either removed the winning boule by a shot or got closer to the jack by pointing. It is not unusual in a game to have the first boule be so good that it beats all of the opposing teams 6 boules. The team with the winning boule can then try to get as many of their boule into the scoring position as possible. The ends continue until one of the teams reaches 13 points. It is not unusual to have a team score 6 points in one end, followed by 6 points in the next end and to finish with 1 point in the final end and to win 13-0, termed as a "fanny", the ultimate disaster in the game for the losing team.

If either team hits or moves the jack both teams must play to the new position of the jack provided it is within the agreed boundaries. If a jack goes dead (out of bounds) the end is null and void and must be replayed with neither team scoring any points with one exception detailed shortly. There is no limit to the amount of dead ends in a game and hitting a jack out of bounds can be a great tactic if you have wasted a few of your teams boule trying to get closer. If a team has played all of their boule and the jack goes dead then the opposing team will score points for each boule they still have in their hands (yet to play).

Pointing is generally done by throwing the boule with backspin, if you throw with top spin you will have little or no control over the final position of the boule. There are variations of this method of play utilising sidespin to manipulate the boule and these will be covered in future articles. The preferred methods of pointing are lobbing, semi lob and rolling.

Lobbing a boule is where the boule is thrown high in an arc to land in a position close to the jack and to enable to boule to either roll a very short distance or to stop dean in the position it lands in. This is very difficult to master but can be used with great effect as it can eliminate any interference the ground (terrain) may have on the boule.

Semi lob is the preferred method of play for the majority of new players. You stand straight and throw the boule in an arc top land half way between the circle and the jack. The boule lands and rolls towards the target hopefully stopping in the vicinity of the jack.

The rolling shot is often seen thrown from a crouched position where the player can get a better sight of the terrain and can see any bumps and can determine the best path for their shot. The bouls is thrown to land in front of the circle for it to roll the entire distance to the jack. This is generally useful on fast terrains where there is little gravel but is practically useless where th terrain is thick with gravel or large stones as this will impede the motion and also deflect the boule from its intended finishing position.

Shooting is done in a similar fashion. The main difference being that in pointing you intend to land on a chosen area of the terrain in order that your boule will finish in a suitable position. In shooting you are throwing your boule to land either on the target boule or just in front of it so it will shunt the target boule out of the way. The aim of this shot is to remove the offending boule. This shot is also played with backspin to allow the boule being thrown to stop after contact and remain in the vicinity of the removed boule.

The ultimate shot is called a Carreau. This is where the shooter throws their boule and it lands perfectly on the target boule and stays in the exact position of the removed boule.

NBA Tickets

If you were building an NBA franchise, which player would you like to start a team with? When pondering this question, one must take skills, age, potential, leadership, commercial appeal and a number of other factors into consideration. Let's examine some potential candidates.

LeBron James: The obvious choice. They don't call him King James for nothing. James is one of the two best players in the league (Kobe Bryant). He's an owner's dream thanks to the media exposure he gets, which inherently equals dollar signs. LeBron is a physical beast on the court. He's both stronger and quicker than almost anyone that guards him. When he's on the break, you might as well just get out of his way. James has carried the Cavaliers since he entered the league in 2003. He took a mediocre supporting cast to the NBA Finals and is the best player to start a franchise with. It doesn't hurt than he sells more NBA tickets at http://www.stubhub.com/nba-tickets/ than any other player in the league, either. A solid sidekick and a team of role players is all you'd have to put around this guy to contend for a title.

Dwight Howard: Some people love size, and Howard's got it. Howard's potential is simply scary considering he's a mere 22 years old. He's got the potential to put up a 30-15 season if his offensive game comes around. He's the best rebounder in the league thanks to his size and off-the-charts athleticism. He's not a dominant scorer, though, so a franchise built around him would need a perimeter scorer of some kind.

Chris Paul: Paul has proved that he makes everybody markedly better when he's on the floor. Paul has no weaknesses in his game, but do you want to start your team with a point guard? He'd be one of the few I'd consider. He can score, facilitate, play defense and rebound. He's also a born leader and one of the fiercest competitors in the league.

Amare Stoudemire: People tend to forget than he's only 25 years old. He's beginning to look like the player that he was becoming before he hurt his knee. Remember that guy? He was the one just abusing the Spurs in the playoffs on a nightly basis a couple years back. We'll always wonder how good he would have been had he not undergone micro-fracture surgery, but he's still a dominant force and getting better.

Chris Bosh: Bosh has not even hit his prime yet, which is scary. Bosh looks to have the potential to be Kevin Garnett reborn, only without the crazy. He'll probably never become the rebounder than Garnett was, but a lot of the other skills are there. He's only 24 and will be in the MVP conversation in most seasons.

Derrick Rose: I can't believe I'm considering two point guards, but they're both so good. Rose has potential to reach heights than perhaps only he and Paul can dream of. His size and athleticism are almost unfair at the point and his game is further advanced than many people thought coming into his rookie campaign.

Kevin Durant: If his game progresses and he learns when to take shots, he could be the most deadly scorer in the NBA. The potential is there, but it's a risky move considering his penchant for hoisting tough shots. Still, his upside is too large to ignore.
