We are a nation of folks that like to compete and we use that competition to propel our civilization. Since, those who compete at a higher level end up with more than those who don't it should not surprise anyone, that we are also a nation of cheaters. No, not everyone, and I am certainly not condemning you personally, rather just pointing to the fact that we have crooked politicians, rotten business people, school kids cheating on tests, bad policemen, and nonprofit scamsters.
And yes, this brings me to my next point, we have sports stars cheating with steroids, some say they use them only to get over injuries and if they didn't they could not play, others use them solely to gain the upper hand, it's called cheating. Many non-cheaters are angry that they are called into question and their integrity scrutinized because they would never do such a thing.
Now, I realize it is humiliating these drug tests, in college I ran track, and it used to piss me off (no pun intended) these drug tests for steroids, I would never take drugs, "how dare they accuse me or suspect that my hard work and performance from training and will were not winning all those races!" A good book to read on this is the Floyd Landis biography.
What is rather interesting is that the public and politicians love to get in on it all. And many athletes say, well, let's test the congressmen, judges, policemen and even the President, how would they like it? Yes, those are good points, and one could counter that if the athletes want to play, they have to submit to drug tests. And that is where we are today, and perhaps where will be on this issue far into the future.
